The foundation is named after a very useful tree in Gabon: the Moabi   (Baillonella toxisperma). The Moabi is a strikingly magnificent giant of the forest of Central Africa, a tree whose survival is threatened by the great demand for its fruits, seeds, bark and timber.
The foundation supports young African scientists to study their flora either in their own country or in Wageningen through fellowships usually of modest size.
